Background:
On the remote celestial body of Boreus 742, completely covered in snow, a forgotten lone scout recons the landscape. A routine expedition carried out in search of valuable resources to fuel the ongoing war effort. Scouts are sent to remote bodies for several weeks to test the lands and run experiments in an effort to decipher if it’s worth extracting on a large scale. Companion drones scan the land and provide vital feedback to the scout when exploring an alien land for the first time – what foods are edible? Is the air hazardous? A drone is an extension of a scout’s life.
After losing all comms with Homebase weeks ago, with rations essentially gone, the scout is forced to scavenge the land while trekking to the highest peak to acquire radio signal in a last-ditch effort to alert an extraction from Homebase. Temperatures hover around -20°C during the day. The land is savage and it’s inhabitants hostile. It’s an arduous expedition and one that will ultimately prove fruitless for our hapless traveler, unbeknownst that the Homebase was destroyed weeks ago.
